The Wildcats move to 5-2 overall, while D'Youville suffered its first loss of the season and fell to 4-1. It marked the NEC opener for both teams. Daemen entered the match ranked fourth in the latest Off The Block Division II Coaches Poll. Off The Block is a website solely dedicated to the coverage of collegiate men's volleyball. The Wildcats are also receiving votes in the AVCA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Poll for the first time in program history. The Wildcats return to action tomorrow night (Feb. 9) when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College in a non-league match. IMPACT PLAYERS Fifth-year senior Zach Schneider (Lockport, N.Y.) paced the Wildcats with 19 kills and just five errors for a .438 hitting percentage. The 19 kills ties the program record for most kills in a three set match that he set last year during a loss to Long Island University in the semifinals of the NEC Tournament. Junior Billy Wieberg (Grand Island, N.Y.) added eight kills with just one error for a .467 hitting percentage. He also posted five digs. Senior opposite Cameron Milligan (Pavilion, N.Y.) chipped in six kills and four aces, while junior Maverick O'Neill (East Amherst, N.Y.) finished with five kills. Freshman middle Ondrej Arabasz (Jicin, Czech Republic) posted a team-high five blocks, while fifth-year senior Sean Califf (Oak Park, Ill.) handed out 34 assists and also posted six digs. Sophomore Shaun Vattakuzhivil led the Saints with nine kills, while junior Randy Adorno dished out 21 assists. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE The teams traded points early on in game one, before the Wildcats strung together four unanswered points and opened up a 10-5 lead. D'Youville quickly cut the lead to two points (11-9), but Daemen answered with a 6-1 run that gave the hosts a 17-11 lead. The Saints would not go away and once again made it a two-point difference (23-21), but the Wildcats got kills from Schneider and O'Neil to close out the set. D'Youville jumped out to an 8-5 lead in game two, but the Wildcats put together a 4-0 run and took a 9-8 lead following a kill by Schneider. Neither team lead by more than two points the rest of the game, which featured 16 ties and eight lead changes down the stretch. The game was tied at 26-26 when the Wildcats got a service ace from Milligan and a kill by Wieberg to close out the game. The Wildcats held a 12-10 lead in game three when the hosts took control with a 7-1 run. A kill by Wieberg capped the run and gave the Wildcats a 19-11 lead. The teams traded points the rest of the game and Daemen closed out the match with a 25-16 win. Daemen posted a team hitting percentage of .765 in game three (13 kills, 17 attacks, 0 errors). The Wildcats have prevailed in the last nine meetings between the two teams and move to 9-1 all-time against the Saints.
