Men's Tennis Picks Up Non-Conference Win Over Millennia Atlantic

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Daemen University men's tennis team earned a victory in the first of three matches during their spring break trip down in Florida, topping Millennia Atlantic 4-3 in a non-conference pairing on Monday afternoon. The Wildcats move to 3-6 on the year and snap a two-match skid, winning their second match of the spring season.

Today's match was played under NCAA Division I/II scoring rules and MAU claimed the doubles point after taking two of the three matches. An injury forced MAU to forfeit No. 3 doubles. MAU earned the point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Haru Satomura and Andre Jovanoski of MAU defeated sophomore Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) and junior Juan Alvarez (Puebla, Mexico), 6-3, at No. 1 doubles, while Michael Glocman and Filip Robles got past freshman Lucas Garcia (Bogota, Columbia) and junior Jayven Williamson (Minneapolis, Minn.), 6-2, at No. 2 doubles.

Daemen evened the match at 1-1 after picking up a win by forfeit at No. 6 singles. MAU regained the lead after Jovanoski defeated freshman Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany), 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3 singles. Daemen got back on track as Lumanog posted his third No. 1 singles victory after beating Glocman 7-6, 6-2. The Wildcats took a 3-2 lead after Garcia battled for a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 win over Robles in No. 4 singles. Tajima evened the match at 3-3 after he defeated graduate student Zachary Laplante (Ottawa, Ont.) at No. 5 singles, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2. The match came down to No. 2 singles and Alvarez outlasted Satomura (6-4, 6-7, 6-4) to give Daemen the win.

Alvarez, who is 5-5 in singles play this season, moves to 3-2 in No. 2 singles on the year with today's victory and has won his last two singles matches.
