Saint Francis Completes Weekend Sweep Of Wildcats

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis University men's volleyball team completed a weekend sweep of Daemen University following a 3-1 victory this afternoon at the DeGol Arena on the SFU campus. The host Red Flash, who also posted a 3-1 win over the Wildcats here Friday night, remained atop the Northeast Conference standings with the win as they improve to 14-8 overall and 6-0 in the league. Daemen, which is receiving votes in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll, dropped to 13-5 overall and 6-2 in the NEC.

The Wildcats are idle until next weekend when they hit the road again for conference games at LIU (March 29) and FDU (March 30).
 
IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Junior Andrew Deardorff totaled 12 kills for the hosts, while classmate Nathan Zini added 11 kills. Senior Ryan Parker handed out 31 assists for the Red Flash.
  • Fifth-year senior Zach Schneider (Lockport, N.Y.) paced the Wildcats with 18 kills.
  • Senior opposite Cameron Milligan (Pavilion, N.Y.) chipped in 11 kills and three blocks, while junior Maverick O'Neill (East Amherst, N.Y.) finished with seven kills and three blocks.
  • Fifth-year senior Sean Califf (Oak Park, Ill.) handed out 34 assists and also posted six digs.
  • Graduate student Michael Krueger (Canonsburg, Pa.) recorded a season-high 16 digs for the Wildcats.                                   
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Daemen held an 8-7 lead in set one when the Red Flash took control with a 12-5 run that gave the hosts a 19-13 lead. Daemen cur the lead to four three times down the stretch but would come no closer and SFU took a 25-20 win.
  • Daemen held a 9-7 lead in set two and the Wildcats scored six of the next nine points to open a 15-10 lead. SFU scored the next two points, but Daemen answered with a 7-2 run and the Wildcats went on to a 25-16 win.
  • Daemen held a 13-7 lead in set three, but the hosts rallied and eventually tied the set at 15-15. The teams then traded points and Daemen held a 22-21 lead when the Red Flash took advantage of two Daemen errors and a SFU service ace to take a 24-22 lead. Daemen got a kill from O'Neill and an ace from sophomore Johnaustin Bly (Lancaster, N.Y.) to tie it at 24-24, and the teams traded points before SFU recorded back-to-back points to secure the 27-25 win.
  • Set four was back-and-forth and it was tied at 18-18 when the Red Flash closed out the set and the match by outscoring the Wildcats 7-2 down the stretch.
  • Daemen out killed the Red Flash (44-40), but the Wildcats committed 21 hitting errors (16 over the final two sets) and finished with a .211 hitting percentage.
  • Daemen remains winless (0-6) against the Red Flash all time.
