Men's Volleyball Snaps Three-Match Skid With 3-0 Win At FDU

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Daemen University men's volleyball team snapped a three-match skid with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-19) win at FDU on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats, who dropped Friday night's match at LIU, got back on track in the Northeast Conference, moving to 14-6 on the year and 7-3 in NEC play with the win over the Knights, while FDU snaps a three-game win streak and moves to 9-12 overall and 3-5 in conference matches. 

Daemen senior opposite Cameron Milligan (Pavilion, N.Y.) led the Wildcats with 12 of Daemen's 31 kills on the day. The Cats owned the match up at the net, out-blocking FDU 13 to two, with the Wildcats totaling 23 block assists. 

The Wildcats will play Roberts Wesleyan twice next week, traveling to Rochester on Thursday then hosting the Redhawks on Saturday. 

IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Milligan led the way offensively for the Wildcats with 12 kills and just two errors on 23 attacks for a .435 hitting percentage while adding four digs, three block assists and one ace for a team-high 14.5 points.
  • Fifth year outside hitter Zach Schneider (Lockport, N.Y.) finished with seven kills and one error on 10 attacks to hit at a .600 clip. Schneider posted five digs, six block assists and one solo block.
  • Freshman middle blocker Ondrej Arabasz (Jicin, Czech Republic) totaled five kills and zero errors on 10 assists for a .500 hitting percentage, adding four block assists and two assists.
  • A pair of juniors in Maverick O'Neill (East Amherst, N.Y.) and Billy Wieberg (Grand Island, N.Y.) each finished with three kills. O'Neill led the Wildcats with seven block assists and two assists while Wieberg totaled four digs, two block assists, one ace and two assists on the day.
  • Fifth year setter Sean Califf (Oak Park, Ill.) posted 22 assists, four digs, one solo block and one block assist, one ace and one kill.
GAME NOTES
  • Daemen led by as much as 14-7 in the first, but the Knights scored five unanswered points off three FDU kills to bring the game within two, 14-12. The Wildcats then scored 11 of the final 16 points of the set after totaling four kills taking advantage of seven Knight errors down the stretch to win the first set 25-17. FDU committed 11 attack errors and four service errors in the first.
  • The Wildcats went on the offensive in the second, out-killing the Knights 13 to 8 and finishing with a .391 hitting percentage. Despite the Knights jumping out to a 4-0 lead, Daemen put together a 9-2 run to take a 9-6 lead, and the Cats never looked back. The Wildcats cruised to a 21-15 lead after compiling 10 kills from there and went on to win the second set 25-18. Milligan led the Cats with five second-set kills.
  • Daemen and FDU opened the third trading points up to 11, then the Wildcats went on three separate 3-0 runs to top the Knights 25-19 in the final set. The Wildcats finished with 11 kills for a .364 hitting percentage in the third. Milligan totaled six kills in the third while Arabasz added three kills in the set.
