Milligan Finishes With 14 Kills In Daemen's 3-0 Win Over Thomas More

AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen University men's volleyball team topped Thomas More University 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-18) in a non-conference match up on Tuesday night to move to 12-3 on the year. The Saints drop to 4-12 with the loss.
 
Senior opposite Cameron Milligan (Pavilion, N.Y.) led all players on the court offensively, totaling 14 kills with just one error on 20 attacks for a .650 hitting percentage in the win. The Wildcats posted 32 kills with 8 errors on 63 attacks for a .381 clip and held Thomas More to a .083 hitting percentage after the Saints totaled 29 kills with 22 errors.
 
Daemen wraps up non-conference play with a Friday night home match against Tusculum at 6 PM.
 
IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Milligan finished with double-digit kills for the eighth time this season, going 14 of 20 with just one error for a season-high .650 hitting percentage. Eight of his 14 kills came in the third set. The senior added four digs, two aces, one assist and one block assist on the night.
  • Earning his third consecutive NEC Player of the Week this afternoon, Zach Schneider (Lockport, N.Y.) totaled 10 kills on 22 attacks for a .273 hitting percentage along with four digs and one block assist.
  • Senior setter Sean Califf (Oak Park, Ill.) totaled 29 assists, three digs, three block assists and one ace.
  • Freshman middle Ondrej Arabasz (Jicin, Czech Republic) went four of eight with two errors for a .250 hitting percentage, adding three block assists, one solo block, one dig and one ace on the night.  
GAME NOTES
  • Daemen came into the match ranked No. 2 in the latest Off The Block Division II National Coaches Poll. The Wildcats have been ranked second in Division II men's volleyball for the last two weeks.
  • After trading points until both teams tied up at five, the Saints went on a 4-1 run off three kills to take a 9-6 lead over the Cats. Thomas More led by as much as five points, 16-11, over Daemen. Following a Daemen timeout, the Wildcats put together an 8-3 run, taking advantage of six Saint errors to gain the 19-18 lead late in the set.  The Wildcats won seven of the final nine points of the game to take the first 25-20 over the Saints.
  • Daemen and Thomas More stayed even for the first 10 points, but from there the Wildcats outscored the Saints 7-3 after five kills from five different Daemen players to take a 17-13 lead. TMU went on a 7-4 run from there to tie the game up at 20. Daemen won five of the last six points to win the second set 25-21. The Wildcats tallied 12 kills with just one error on 19 attacks for a .579 hitting percentage in the second, with Schneider's four kills leading the way offensively in the set.
  • Just like the first two sets, the Wildcats and Saints traded points early, but after taking a 12-11 lead, Daemen cruised for a 14-7 run to end the set, with Milligan totaling five of the Wildcats' six kills in the end of the set. The senior finished with eight of Daemen's 12 third-set kills as the Wildcats won the final set 25-18 after posting a .429 hitting percentage in the set.  
  • On top of an outstanding offensive game, the Wildcats finished with eight total blocks, combining 11 block assists and three solo blocks in the win.
