AMHERST, N.Y. -- Daemen University graduate student
Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Cross Country Preseason Co-Runner of the Year, the conference announced today. St. Thomas Aquinas' Zoe Merryman shared the ECC Preseason Co-Runner of the Year honor with Bailey. Bailey's selection comes after a vote of the league's eight head coaches, and marks the third straight season a Daemen runner has achieved ECC Preseason Runner of the Year honors.
Kassandra Nolet was named the Preseason Runner of the Year in 2022, and
Courtney Merrill (Speedway, Ind.) was tabbed the 2023 Preseason Co-Runner of the Year.
Bailey put together a standout senior campaign in 2023 and was one of three runners on the team to compete in all seven of Daemen's races last season. She posted three top-10 finishes on the year and placed in the top three runners on the team in each of the seven meets. The graduate student was the only Wildcat runner to earn First Team All-ECC honors as she placed seventh in the conference championships with a personal record time of 18:58.8 and helped Daemen place second overall as a team for the third straight season.
Bailey picked up USTFCCCA All-Region honors after posting a personal-best 6K time of 22:40.8 where she placed 18th out of 117 runners, and first on the team, at the NCAA Division II East Region Championships where she helped lift the Wildcats to a fifth-place team finish.
The Wildcats will race in seven meets this season, three in the month of September and two in October during the regular season. Daemen opens up the season on Sept. 7 at the Doug Watts Open in Edinboro, Pa. before returning to Bassett Park in Williamsville, N.Y. for the annual Daemen Alumni Invitational on Sept. 14. The Wildcats will then travel to Rochester, N.Y. for the Harry F. Anderson Invitational on Sept. 28 and then go back to Pennsylvania for the Paul Short Run on Oct. 5 in Bethlehem, Pa. before rounding out the regular season back in Buffalo at the Canisius Alumni Classic at Delaware Park on Oct. 19. The Wildcats will host the ECC Championships at Bassett Park on Oct. 26. The NCAA Division II East Region Championships will be close to home in 2024 in Rochester, N.Y. on Nov. 9.
