Women’s Soccer Drops Season Opener At Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – Three different players found the back of the net for Assumption University in the second half to lead the hosts to a 3-0 victory over Daemen University in the season opening game for each team.

HIGHLIGHTS

• After a scoreless first half, Assumption were able to get on the scoreboard first as Haleigh Ward fired a shot into the back of the net to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute.

• The Greyhounds doubled their lead in the 56th minute as Haley Brown received a pass from Delaney Farinha and fired a ball past Daemen keeper Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) for her first goal of the season. 

• Assumption added one more goal in the 72nd minute off the foot of Katherine Laboissonnere to close out the scoring. 

• In net, Schultz made a career-high 14 saves while Assumption's Frida Larsson made nine saves of her own. Both goalies played the full 90 minutes.

• The Greyhounds finished the first half with a slim 15-13 edge on shots and the hosts ended the game with a 35-20 advantage. Assumption also paced the game in shots on goal with a 17-9 advantage.

GAME NOTES

• Today marked the third all-time meeting between the two sides. Assumption now leads the all-time series, 2-0-1.

• Junior Kylie Miranto (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) took seven shots in the contest, setting a new career-high. 

• Schult'z career-high 14 saves eclipse her previous high of 12 which she set last year against St. Thomas Aquinas College on Oct. 21, 2023. 

• Schultz and sophomore Amanda Nilsson (Malmö, Sweden) were the only two members of the Wildcats to play the full 90 minutes. For Nilsson, it marks the second time in her career and first instance since Oct. 4, 2023 at Bluefield St. that she played the entire match.

• Five Wildcats made their collegiate debut with Allie O'Donnell (Georgetown, Ont.), Taylor Fiegel (Lockport, N.Y.), Chloé Cardone (Hilton, N.Y.), Olivia Kayser (Fairport, N.Y.) and Kaitlyn Wright (Geneva, N.Y.)  all appearing for the first time with the Wildcats.
