HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Daemen University women's tennis team began their 2024-25 campaign with a resounding 7-0 win over Houghton University at the Kerr-Pegula Fieldhouse.
The Wildcats pick up their first win of the season while the Highlanders drop to 0-4. Daemen is now 8-0 all-time against Houghton as well following the victory.
Daemen opened the match by winning all three doubles matches and only dropping three games throughout. The Wildcats No. 2 doubles tandem of junior

Stephanie Baier (Boise, Idaho) swept the duo of MyaKay Bartman and Kelsi Clapper, 6-0.
In singles play, the Wildcats continued to roll as senior
Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) defeated Houghton's Arija Grant without dropping a game, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while at No. 2 singles, fellow senior,
Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.), downed Clancey Cockle 6-0, 6-1. For Scime, she now sits 11 wins away from the program record for singles wins. At No. 3 singles, Armitage prevailed over Bartman again by scores of 6-1, 6-0. At No. 4 and No. 5 singles, freshman
Bella Bjerkan (Elmhurst, Ill.) and Baier each made their collegiate singles debuts and won. Bjerkan defeated Houghton's Zoe Zachary 6-0, 6-3 and Baier downed Clapper in their singles rematch 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 and No. 5 singles respectively. Junior
Dania Mehani (Amherst, N.Y.) completed the sweep for the Wildcats, defeating Victoria Martinez 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.
