Box Score AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen University women's tennis team picked up their second win of the season, defeating Allgheny College, 6-1, Sunday morning at the Sweet Home High School Courts.
The Wildcats improve to 2-0 while the Gators dropped their first dual match of the season. The match was played under NCAA Division I/II scoring rules.
Daemen opened the contest by winning all three doubles matches for the second straight contest, also claiming the doubles point. At No. 2 doubles, the duo of seniors
Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) and
Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.) went to a tiebreaker against Rei Etsumi and Nicole Serna Cassan where the Wildcats senior duo came on top in the tiebreaker, 7-3 and won 7-6 overall.
The Wildcats continued to roll in singles play with graduate student
Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.) defeating Emiliia Grydnieva 6-3, 6-1 for her first win of the 2024 campaign. Scime and Del Leon carried their momentum from their doubles victory to singles as both picked up wins. Scime defeated Julia Müsseler 6-2, 6-0 while Del Leon downed Etsumi 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. At No. 4 singles, junior
Carly Armitage (Rochester, N.Y.) dropped a closely contested match to Cassan 5-7, 6-2, 11-9. No. 5 singles saw freshman
Bella Bjerkan (Elmhurst, Ill.) defeat Omega Ba, 6-4, 6-2, while her fellow freshman,
Stephanie Baier (Boise, Idaho) took down Adriana Navarro in convincing fashion, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
