AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen University men's and women's track and field team continue their seasons with a trip back to Houghton, N.Y., to compete in the Highlander Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. from the Kerr-Pegula Field House on the campus of Houghton University.
Freshman Lia Brasacchio (Victor, N.Y.) aplaced second in the 500 meters final in her first competition of the season while graduate student
Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) took home the 3000 meters crown to highlight the Wildcats efforts in their last meet at the Winter Welcome Back to Brockport Meet.
Brasacchio placed first in her section and second overall with a time of 1:26.29 in the 500 meters race while Daemen landed atop the podium in the 3000 meters as Bailey came in first, winning the event with a time of 11:08.70. Out in the field, sophomore
Kristen Oliver (Massena, N.Y) paced the Wildcats throwing efforts as she placed second in weight throw with a final distance of 14.79 meters. The Massena, N.Y., native also set a new personal best in shot put and placed eighth overall (10.77 meters). Sophomore
D'Naesha Quicksey (Buffalo, N.Y.) set a new career-high and placed ninth in the high jump (1.34 meters). Other notable performances came from graduate student
Emma Grzebinski (West Seneca, N.Y.) who placed seventh in the 800 meters race with a time of 2:35.55 and junior
Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) with her fifth place finish in the 60 meters hurdles (10.16).
As for the men, Graduate student
John Jaworski (Naperville, Ill.) set new program records in the 60 meters dash and 200 meters while junior
Adam Kamagate (Hilton, N.Y.) broke his own record in the 60 meters hurdles to highlight the Wildcats efforts. Jaworski opened the meet by finishing first in the 60 meters dash preliminaries third heat with a program-record time of 6.95 seconds, breaking the record held by Rodney Corbin since Feb. 23, 2018, which was set at the ECC Championships. In the final, Jaworski secured the first-place finish with a time of 6.97 seconds. Jaworski continued his hot streak in the 200 meters as he placed second overall and set another program record with a time of 22.71 seconds. The Naperville, Ill., native edged out Niko Jemmisons time of 22.84 which he set on Feb. 26, 2016 at the ECC Championships. After setting a new program record for the 60 meters hurdles at the Houghton December Classic (Dec. 6), Kamagate outdid himself again as he broke his own record with a time of 8.59 in the 60 meters hurdles preliminaries third heat. In the final, Kamagate claimed his second consecutive hurdles crown and set a new record again with a time of 8.45. Off the track, sophomore
Tyler Prescott (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) landed in third place in the high jump (1.81) to lead the Wildcats efforts in the field.
