Johnson started the indoor season strong, winning the mile race at the Houghton December Classic last Friday. He finished in 4:30.35 to earn gold over 42 other runners. It marked a PR for the junior and broke the program record that he previously held by just over a second. Johnson also placed third out of 21 in the 3,000 meters, posting a time of 9:15.08. Additionally, he helped the Wildcats' 4x400 relay team place seventh out of 10 with a time of 3:47.82, running as the third leg of the relay. This is the second time in his career that Johnson has earned a track weekly honor from the conference, following his Athlete of the Week accolade once during the outdoor season last year. The Wildcats will have some time off before resuming their indoor season at the Brockport Invitational on Jan. 17. Daemen University features the premier NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 18 intercollegiate teams.
