Women's Volleyball Earns Third Conference Win of Season

SPARKILL, N.Y. -  The Daemen University women's volleyball team picked up its third conference victory in a row with a 3-2 (26-24, 23-25, 13-25, 25-21, 15-13) road win over St. Thomas Aquinas College this afternoon. The Wildcats improve to 7-10 and 3-1 in the ECC, while the Spartans drop to 3-12 and 0-3 in the conference.

The Wildcats wasted no time as they took a 3-0 lead in the opening set, but the Spartans tallied back-to-back points to cut the lead to 3-2. Both teams went back and forth for most of the set, only to find themselves tied at 14.  Daemen broke the tie as it put together an 8-0 run to go up 22-14, but STAC chipped away at the lead to tie the set at 24. The Wildcats used a kill and took advantage of a Spartan attack error to win the set 26-24 and take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Both teams found themselves tied seven times, with the most recent being at 12-12 in set two. STAC used an 8-3 run to grab a 20-15 lead, but the Wildcats clawed back into it to trail 21-19. Daemen was able to tie the set at 23 before STAC earned a 25-23 win, tying the match at one.

With the momentum on the Spartans' side, they jumped out to an 11-3 lead in set three.  The Wildcats were able to cut the lead to seven to trail 13-6, but STAC controlled the set to go on to win 25-13 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

STAC looked to close things out in the fourth set as it took a 10-4 lead. Daemen was able to work its way back into the set as it trailed by two at 19-17. Both teams traded points to find themselves tied at 21, and after that, the Wildcats tallied the next four points straight to win 25-21 and tie the match.

Going into the fifth set, both teams exchanged points to open things up to end up tied 2-2 and then again at 5-5. Daemen used a 4-3 run to take a 9-8 lead, but STAC tied things off on a Wildcat error to knot the set at nine.  The Wildcats took control after that to win the set 15-13 off a 6-4 run and take the match 3-2.

Keira Mullen paced Daemen with 20 kills while hitting a .415 for the match. She added a team-leading 14 digs in the process. Teammate Avery Dole registered a team-high 24 assists and three aces.
