Daemen Falls in Exhibition Game at Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Ne'vaeh Buntley (Rochester, N.Y.)  scored 18 points and Cecilia Lapertosa (Whitesboro, N.Y.) added 17, but Syracuse defeated Daemen 98-62 in an exhibition game on Tuesday at the JMA Wireless Dome.

The game opened with Sophie Burrows of Syracuse sinking two free throws, setting an early tone. Daemen quickly responded with Lapertosa's jumper, assisted by Julia Fontanillo (Valladolid, Spain), to tie the score at 2-2. Syracuse then went on a run to build a lead, which it extended to 20-8 by the midway point of the first quarter.

Buntley found her rhythm late in the quarter, contributing a 3-pointer and a jumper as Daemen closed the gap to 33-21 by the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats only turned the ball over once in the opening 10 minutes, helping them minimize the gap.

Syracuse extended its lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 20-12. The Wildcats struggled to get much going offensively, but Buntley managed a late surge, hitting a 3-pointer and converting four free throws. Despite Daemen's attempts to close the gap, Syracuse maintained control, leading 53-33 by the end of the quarter.

The Orange extended their lead in the third quarter, scoring consistently. Despite efforts from the Wildcats, including a layup and free throw by Lapertosa, Syracuse maintained control. The Orange outscored Daemen 23-16 in the quarter, closing it with a 76-49 advantage.

In the fourth quarter, Daemen's Morgan White (New Carlisle, Ind.) responded with a jumper at 9:31 to get on the score sheet. Shyla Montgomery's (Brockton, Mass.) layup and free throw at 7:38 cut into the deficit, but the orange kept ahead, sealing the 98-62 victory.

Buntley scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds, making a significant impact with her performance. Lapertosa added 17 points and converted six of seven free throws, complementing her effort with a steal and a block. Montgomery contributed seven points and recorded three steals. Reece Beaver (Busti, N.Y.) also came up strong on defense, collecting two steals in her time on the court.
