Johnson Selected For At-Large Berth To Cross Country National Championships 11/10/2025 5:00:00 PM AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen University junior CJ Johnson (Baltimore, Md.) has been selected as one of 25 individual qualifiers for the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country National Championships. The official announcement of qualifying teams and individuals was made today at ncaa.com. Johnson will head to Kenosha, Wisc. to compete in the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country National Championships which are slated for 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22. He becomes the first male cross country runner of Daemen's NCAA Division II era (2015-present) to qualify for the national meet. "CJ exemplifies everything you want in an athlete," said Daemen head coach Pete Gratien. "He sets the standard for work ethic, accountability and attitude. He had a phenomenal season and I'm pleased that he now gets a shot to compete at a national championship meet." Johnson's selection comes after he placed seventh overall at the NCAA Division II East Region Championships this past Saturday at the Hopkinton (N.H.) State Fairgrounds. Johnson finished the 10K race in 32:18.87 - two seconds shy of his career-best time. For his efforts, Johnson was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-East Region team, the second such accolade of his career. Prior to the regional championship meet, Johnson finished first at the East Coast Conference Championships, becoming the first Daemen male to do so and earned First Team All-ECC and ECC Most Outstanding Runner honors.
