ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Daemen University men's volleyball team got back on track on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-23) win over Dominican University New York to improve to 5-3 overall. The Chargers drop their 11
th straight game and fall to 1-11 overall.
The Wildcats totaled 37 kills on 73 attacks with just 10 errors to finish with a .355 hitting percentage. For the second straight game, redshirt junior outside hitter
Billy Wieberg (Grand Island, N.Y.) led the Wildcats offensively, totaling 14 kills while hitting at a .400 clip in the win.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Wieberg posted double-digit kills for the second straight match, hitting 14 kills with just four errors on 25 attacks for a .400 hitting percentage while adding a team-high five aces, four digs, one solo block, two block assists and an assist.
- Redshirt freshman right side Patrick Mullen (Farmingdale, N.Y.) finished with seven kills, two digs, one ace and one block assist.
- Sophomore outside hitter Jack Rooney (Lakeview, N.Y.) totaled five kills along with two digs, one ace and one assist.
- Sophomore middle blocker Ondrej Arabasz (Jicin, Czech Republic) finished with five kills on nine attacks for a .444 hitting percentage and added one ace, one assist and one dig.
- Sophomore setter Bradyn Winters (Coraopolis, PA) totaled 28 assists, one kill, one dig and one block assist.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Wildcats went on a 6-1 run to open the first set off four Wieberg aces and led by as much as 9-3 a few points later. The Wildcats cruised to a 25-19 first set victory after totaling 11 kills on 23 assists. Mullen and Wieberg led the way offensively for the Cats with three kills apiece.
- Daemen and Dominican traded points up to eight all, but from there the Chargers went on a 4-0 run and maintained that lead up to taking a 17-13 advantage over the Cats. Daemen put together a 7-1 run of their own to jump to a 19-18 lead and closed out the set taking the second 25-22 after hitting 12 kills for a .375 hitting percentage while holding the Chargers to hit -.020 in the set.
- Both teams remained even in the third and were all tied up at 14 until the Wildcats scored four straight to take an 18-14 lead. With Daemen up 23-19, the Chargers tied the game up at 23 after winning the next four points off a pair of kills and two Daemen errors. A Wieberg kill and a service ace by Jack Rooney (Lakeview, N.Y.) sealed the third set for Daemen, 25-23. Daemen hit a set-high .414 in the third after totaling 14 kills and just two errors on 29 attacks.

The Wildcats return to Lumsden Gymnasium next weekend for a pair of home games against Central State (Friday, Feb. 21) and American International (Saturday, Feb. 22).
