Men's Volleyball Sweeps Central State

Box Score AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen University men's volleyball team picked up their fourth win in five games as they swept Central State, 3-0, in intercollegiate men's volleyball action Friday night at Lumsden Gymnasium.
 
With the win, the Wildcats improved to 6-3 overall while the Marauders dropped to 1-9.

IMPACT PLAYERS
• Redshirt junior outside hitter Billy Wieberg (Grand Island, N.Y.) led Daemen with a match-high 10 kills on 16 attempts.
• Sophomore setter Bradyn Winters (Coraopolis, Pa.) provided a match-best 24 assists and five digs in the win.
• Sophomore middle blocker Ondrej Arabasz (Jicin, Czech Republic) notched three total blocks with one solo and two block assists to help pace the 'Cats efforts at the net.
• Redshirt freshman right side Patrick Mullen ( Farmingdale, N.J.) turned in a five kill performance and added in one ace as well.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Wildcats held a slim 22-19 edge late in the first set after a service error from Central State. However, an ensuing service error from the Wildcats ushered in a 4-1 run for the Marauders that tied the set, 23-23. Daemen was able to endure the visitors late push as a Wieberg kill followed by Central State attack error let the Wildcats escape with a 25-23 set victory. Rooney led Daemen in kills with four while Winters provided a set-best nine assists for the Blue and White.
• Tied 4-4 early in second set, the Wildcats offense took off as Wieberg kill ignited an 8-2 spurt for Daemen that put them ahead, 12-6 and forced a CSU timeout. Out of the break, Daemen was able to keep CSU at bay for the remainder of the set and scored three of the final four points of the second frame to win, 25-20 and go up 2-0 in the match.
• Daemen commanded the third set early on as they commanded a 15-9 lead at the media timeout. The Wildcats never relented and used multiple scoring runs to win the third set to seal the 3-0 match victory. The Blue and White hit an impressive .591 (15-2-22) in the third set compared to .125 (6-4-16) for the visitors.
• Daemen ended the match hitting at .300 (34-13-70) clip while CSU hit .043 (22-19-70) overall in the match. 
 
GAME NOTES
• Today marked the third all-time meeting between the two sides. Daemen remains undefeated against Central State and has won all three matches 3-0.
• Redshirt freshman Eddie Kwarciak (Grand Island, N.Y.) picked up his first service ace of his collegiate career in the second set.
• Weiberg finished with 10-or-more kills for the third consecutive game.
• The Wildcats held an opponent to a sub .100 hitting percentage for the second straight game and third time this season.
 
UP NEXT
The Wildcats are back in action tomorrow at home against AIC. The match is set to begin at noon.
