BUFFALO, N.Y. - 12 different players found the back of the net for Saint Anselm as they defeated the Daemen University women's lacrosse team, 21-3, in intercollegiate women's lacrosse action Thursday evening at Coyer Field.
The Hawks (6-1), who recently dropped out of the IWLCA Top 25 Poll, were led by a pair of hat tricks from Kendra Sabotka and Brianna Fruci to pace their offense. In net, Elizabeth Driscoll made 12 saves and only allowed two goals over 47:52 minutes of action to secure the win.
Freshman
Molly Evans (Fulton, N.Y.) made seven saves for the 'Cats and played the entire contest. Senior
Cameron Briggs (Buffalo, N.Y.) accounted for one of the three Daemen goals and collected a team-best three draw controls. Junior
Ella Bouley (Auburn, N.Y.) and sophomore
Shannen Calandra (Rome, N.Y.) netted the remaining two tallies for Daemen.
Down 4-0 late in the first, Calandra slotted a ball past Driscoll to get Daemen on the board for the first time in the contest. The Hawks recorded four consecutive goals spanning the end of the first and start of the second quarter to expand their lead to seven, 8-1, with 11:40 left in the first half. Briggs was able to get a goal back for the 'Cats at the 9:54 mark and made it an 8-2 contest, but the visitors scored one more time before the stanza expired to enter the locker room ahead, 9-2.
The Hawks dominated the game out of halftime as they rattled off 10 consecutive goals with seven in the third and three to start the fourth before Bouley converted a free-position attempt to stop the Saint Anselm scoring spree. Saint Anselm added two more goals before the time expired to secure the victory.
Saint Anselm held a 31-20 edge in shots and 18-10 advantage in draw controls. Daemen, however, owned a 12-4 lead in ground balls.
