Women's Lacrosse Tames Findlay

FINDLAY, OHIO – Junior Ella Bouley (Auburn, N.Y.) scored three goals and totaled a career-high six points to lead the Daemen University women's lacrosse team to a 12-7 victory over the University of Findlay today at Russ & Peg Armstrong Sports Complex on the Findlay campus.

Daemen evened its record to 2-2 on the year, while the host Oilers dropped to 1-5 following their third-straight loss. It marked the third all-time meeting between the two programs and Daemen's first-ever win over Findlay. Findlay went 12-7 overall and lost in the championship game of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) tournament last year. Findlay escaped with a 15-12 win over Daemen last year in Buffalo, and prevailed in the first-ever meeting, 17-10, in 2023.

Bouley netted a three-goal hat trick for the second-straight game and played a part in four of Daemen's first five goals this afternoon. Her six points today were one more than her previous career-high of five she set when she netted a career-high four goals and totaled five points in a win over St. Thomas Aquinas College last year.

Junior Avery Castner (Penn Yan, N.Y.) helped the Daemen cause today with three goals and one assist, while sophomore Shannen Calandra (Rome, N.Y.) totaled a goal and an assist. Bouley also recorded a team-high four draw controls today, while junior Jenna Havert (Newark, N.Y.) and sophomore Maria Salvo paced the team in ground balls (3).

Sophomore Karissa Allbright netted four goals for the Oilers, while junior Tessa Chuba added three goals and an assist.

Freshman Molly Evans (Fulton, N.Y.) picked up the win in net for the Wildcats, as she finished with six saves. Fellow rookie Marianna Szamoskozi (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) made her first career appearance in goal for the Wildcats. She played the final 5:47 of the second quarter and made two saves. Freshmen Caroline Weber and Josie Owens combined to make 12 saves for the Oilers.

The game was all knotted up at 2-2 after one quarter, but the Wildcats outscored the Oilers 3-0 during the second quarter and the visitors opened up a 7-2 lead after Castner netted back-to-back goals early in the third quarter. The lead increased to 9-2 after Calandra and senior Cameron Day (Hamburg, N.Y.) scored man-up goals at 4:26 and 2:16 of the third frame.

Findlay cut the lead to four goals, 9-5, midway through the fourth quarter, but Daemen answered with three-straight goals to reclaim a seven-goal lead, 12-5. Szamoskozi started the decisive three-goal run with just 6:20 to play, and goals by Bouley at 5:25 and senior Katelynn Devanns (Clinton, N.Y.) at 5:07 capped the run.

Daemen finished with a 22-20 edge in shots and a 13-9 advantage in draw controls. Findlay posted a 24-17 advantage in ground balls.
