Women's Tennis Swept by St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's tennis team fell to St. Lawrence, 7-0, in intercollegiate women's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Newell Field House.

With the win, St. Lawrence improved to 4-0 while Daemen dropped to 10-8.

The Saints opened the afternoon by sweeping all three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead. The duo of Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.) fought to win their seventh win of the year as a duo, but lost to the combo of Molly Jespersen and Eleanor McDermed, 6-2.

In singles action, Del Leon fought hard, but could not overcome Angelica Aksdal-Jansen of St. Lawrence as she fell, 6-4, 7-5, on No. 1 singles. Playing at No. 2 singles for the first time in her collegiate career, freshman Bella Bjerkan (Elmhurst, Ill.) dropped a 6-0, 6-4, decision to Ariane Karera. St. Lawrence swept the remaining matches from No. 3 through No. 6 singles to seal the 7-0 victory.
