Women's Tennis Senior Day Spoiled by Division I Binghamton

Box Score WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - In their final match of the season, the Daemen University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Division I Binghamton on the Wildcats senior day in intercollegiate women's tennis action Sunday afternoon at Miller Tennis Center. 

With the loss, the Wildcats end the year with a 10-9 overall record while Binghamton improved to 7-11. For the Wildcats, their 10 wins ties the program record for dual match wins in a season set by the 2017-18 squad. It also marks the first time in program history that the 'Cats finished with a record above .500 as well. 

Prior to the match, Daemen honored their four graduating seniors Kitsa Scime (Williamsville, N.Y.), Yinett Del Leon (Cape Coral, Fla.), Emily Jablonski (Alden, N.Y.) and Arianna Lysiak (Depew, N.Y.). 

In the match, the duo of graduate student Frida Rubio (San Diego, Calif.) and Bella Bjerkan (Elmhurst, Ill.) earned their seventh win as a duo this season with a 7-6 decision over Clara Arbeloa Lopez and Caterina Casadei. Still, the Bearcats earned wins on doubles courts No. 2 and 3 to pick up the first point of the match. For Rubio she ended her Daemen career with 41 doubles victories, good for second all-time alongside Gretchen Ringler. 

In singles action, the Wildcats earned their lone point of the match with a default victory at No. 6 singles. In her final collegiate singles match, Scime fell to Lopez, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3 singles to end her Daemen career with 48 singles victories over four years, good for second all-time. As for Del Leon, she finished her Daemen career ranked ninth all-time in singles wins with 26 while Rubio ended with 39 victories, good for sixth all-time. The Bearcats swept the remaining matches at No. 1-5 singles to secure the 6-1 victory.
