AMHERST, N.Y. — Daemen swept Roberts Wesleyan 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-18) on Wednesday at Lumsden Gymnasium. The Wildcats finished with a .274 hitting percentage and 39 kills, while Roberts Wesleyan hit .022 with 21 kills.
The Wildcats built an early 5-1 lead with two Amelia Gonzalez (Juana Diaz, P.R.) kills, a kill from
Payton Gaylor (Bowmanville, Ont.) and a RWU attack error. The Redhawks later went ahead 11-10 on a Wildcats attack error, until the Wildcats moved back in front and led 17-15 after kills by
Avery Craig (Tomball, Tex.) and
Mina Faw (Williamsburg, Va.), but Roberts Wesleyan tied the set at 17-17. A kill from
Audrey Johnson (Mequon, Wisc.) gave the Wildcats an 18-17 edge, and
Mollie Berry (Evergreen Park, Ill.) served the final seven points with three aces as the Wildcats closed the set on an 8-0 run for a 25-17 win.
Daemen scored the first seven points of the second set with Gaylor putting down three kills and Gonzalez adding two during a run that included six straight points on Johnson's serve. After Roberts Wesleyan got on the board, the Wildcats pushed the margin to 10-1 behind a pair of Redhawk errors and a Gonzalez ace, then stayed in control as
Peyton Lowes (Northville, Mich.) served an ace for a 12-3 lead and
Jolie Faw (Williamsburg, Va.) and
Mina Faw added kills. Gonzalez added two more kills around a
Maddie Schamaun (Rockville, Md.) ace to make it 18-6, and the Wildcats closed the set with late kills from
Kate Trueblood (Granger, Ind.) and
Mina Faw for a 25-12 win.
The Wildcats took the first two points of the third, but Roberts Wesleyan answered with four straight and later moved in front 13-10 before the Wildcats worked back to a 14-14 tie on Gonzalez's service ace. After the teams traded points to 16-16, Craig's serve helped the Wildcats win the next four rallies, with Johnson putting down consecutive kills for a 20-16 lead. Roberts Wesleyan stopped the run with a Daemen service error, but the Wildcats took three of the next four points, reached set point at 24-18 and closed the set 25-18 on back-to-back Redhawk attack errors.

- Gonzalez posted a team-high 10 kills with no errors on 14 attempts for a career-high .714 hitting percentage, serving up a pair of aces for a team-high 12 points in the win.
- Craig finished with a team-high 11 digs, adding five kills and one block assist.
- Johnson totaled seven kills on 16 attempts and added five digs.
- Jolie Faw finished with three kills, one solo block and one block assist.
- Lowes paced the Cats with 14 assists, notching her second double-double with 10 digs and added an ace.
- Schamaun totaled 13 assists, four digs, two aces and one kill.
- Berry served up a team-high three aces and chipped in five digs.
