Women's Tennis Falls to West Liberty

AMHERST, N.Y. — The Daemen women's tennis team dropped its spring opener by a score of 6-1 to West Liberty Saturday evening at the Miller Tennis Center. 

The Wildcats' lone point came from Carly Armitage's (Rochester, N.Y.) win at No. 3 singles. 

In doubles action, the Wildcats' No. 1 pair of Marley Conover (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) and Armitage earned a 6-0 victory over the Hilltoppers Courtney Curnutte and Maria Martirosyan. West Liberty won at second doubles, with the Wildcats' pair of Bella Bjerkan (Elmhurst, Ill.) and Ashley Bonilla (Flushing, N.Y.) dropping a 6-2 decision. WLU also won at the No. 3 slot as Daemen's Lily Goodemote (Sauquoit, N.Y.) and Nadja Emmendorfer (Clarence, N.Y.) fell 6-1. 

The Hilltoppers took both matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Conover dropped a three-set thriller by a 6-4, 4-6, 4-6 score to Martirosyan. Bjerkan then lost 1-6, 1-6 at No. 2 to Ana Sánchez. 

Armitage earned the Wildcats' single win with a dominating 6-0, 6-2 victory against Sanchita Dabas at the No. 3 slot. It marked her third singles win of the season. 
 
The Hilltoppers secured the match, winning the rest of the singles matches. Bonilla fell 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 4 slot to Curnutte, while Goodmote dropped a close match at No. 5  to Gabrielle Pasco by a 3-6, 7-6, 4-7 score.  Finally, Dania Mehani (Amherst, N.Y.) lost 4-6, 2-6 at No. 6 singles to Elle Monaco.

The Wildcats remain home next Saturday, hosting St. Lawrence inside the Miller Tennis Center at 1:30 p.m.
