The Wildcats outscored the Saints 21-9 in the final quarter, holding D'Youville to 25% shooting. Daemen capitalized on 19 turnovers in the game, converting them into 13 points, and controlled the paint with a 30-22 edge. IMPACT PLAYERS Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) led the scoring with 22 points, adding six assists and three three-pointers. Ne'vaeh Buntley (Rochester, N.Y.) contributed 12 points and collected nine rebounds, including three on the offensive end. Sophie Auer (Lewiston, N.Y.) scored nine points and collected seven rebounds, including five offensive rebounds Shyla Montgomery (Brockton, Mass.) scored 12 points, highlighted by three three-pointers and two steals. Julia Fontanillo (Valladolid, Spain) recorded four steals and added five points. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE Daemen opened the first quarter by establishing a strong inside presence, scoring 10 points in the paint. Buntley initiated the scoring with a jumper at 9:20, assisted by Pikett, who later added a layup to close the gap. Despite the Wildcats' efforts to maintain momentum, the Saints countered with a series of three-pointers, leading to a back-and-forth contest with multiple lead changes. Montgomery's three-pointer at 1:42 brought Daemen within striking distance, but the Saints managed a late basket to finish the quarter ahead,18-13. In the second, the Wildcats narrowed the gap with a strong defensive presence that resulted in six steals. Montgomery contributed notably by converting free throws at 9:02, while Buntley and Pikett each added crucial layups, with Pikett also sinking two free throws at 3:14 to keep the pressure on the Saints. Auer's three-pointer at 2:28 tied the game, but D'Youville edged ahead by the end of the quarter, leading 29-26. Pikett hit a key three-pointer at the beginning of the third, narrowing the deficit to one point at 34-33 with 7:34 remaining. Montgomery later tied the game with a three-pointer at 4:15, assisted by Pikett, maintaining the momentum. Despite strong efforts, including another three from Pikett at 1:17 to level the score at 45-45, the Saints edged ahead with a late layup. The quarter concluded with D'Youville leading 47-45. In the fourth quarter, Daemen took control with an assertive performance, highlighted by a strong 9-for-18 shooting effort. Fontanillo's three-pointer at 9:30 gave Daemen a 48-47 lead, and it built on this momentum. Key contributions included Montgomery's three-pointer at 8:24 and Pikett's layup with 32 seconds remaining, sealing the victory. GAME NOTES Pikett had reached another milestone, surpassing the 200 career steals mark. She is the ninth player in program history to achieve the accomplishment. Pikett also tallied a season-high six assists. Buntley's nine rebounds tied her season high. Daemen held the advantage in offensive rebounds at 16-8. The Wildcats only recorded five turnovers, tied for their fewest in a game this season. Daemen logged 14 steals, marking the sixth consecutive game it has recorded 14 or more. The Wildcats forced 19 Saints turnovers, scoring 13 points off of them. Daemen outscored DYU 30-22 in points in the paint.
