Despite trailing by 13 points after the first quarter and falling behind by as much as 20 in the second quarter, Daemen rallied to outscore CSI 32-19 in the final regulation quarters, forcing overtime where they sealed the victory. IMPACT PLAYERS Ne'vaeh Buntley (Rochester, N.Y.) scored a career-high 34 points, shooting 8-for-8 from the free-throw line, and recorded four steals while grabbing six rebounds. Joline Raposo (Tampa, Fla.) added 14 points and posted four steals. She also dished out three assists and grabbed four rebounds. Julia Fontanillo (Valladolid, Spain) contributed a team-leading seven assists. She also recorded five steals and 10 points. Sophie Auer (Lewiston, N.Y.) scored eight points and collected five rebounds. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE Daemen opened the game with an aggressive start, including Buntley's offensive rebound and layup at 9:24, leveling the score at 2-2. Claire Pikett (Holland, N.Y.) then capitalized on a turnover by the Dolphins, scoring a fast-break layup at 9:06 for a brief lead. The Wildcats struggled with shooting accuracy, hitting just four of 22 field goal attempts and failing to convert any three-point shots in the quarter. CSI pulled ahead with key baskets, finishing the first ahead 21-8. Daemen shifted momentum midway through the second quarter with a series of defensive stops and quick transitions, including Pikett's fastbreak layup at 6:51. Raposo's three-pointer at 6:04 further fueled the Wildcats' surge. The Dolphins attempted to counter, including a three-pointer by Dana Phelan at 1:36, but Daemen continued to press, closing the quarter with a late layup by Pikett. The quarter ended with the Wildcats outscoring CSI 22-20, bringing the total score to 41-30 in favor of the Dolphins. In the third quarter, Daemen continued to fight back, highlighted by Buntley's performance, who contributed with a crucial three-pointer at 8:07 and followed it with consistent scoring from the free-throw line. The Wildcats' defensive pressure forced CSI into eight turnovers, providing additional scoring opportunities. Daemen ended the quarter trailing closely, with Staten Island holding a 56-52 lead. The Wildcats made a crucial scoring run in the fourth quarter, overcoming a deficit to eventually secure the lead. With 4:55 remaining, Buntley hit a pivotal three-pointer to put Daemen ahead 61–59, assisted by Fontanillo. Buntley continued to be instrumental, scoring a layup and two free throws, extending the lead to 67–62 by the 3:31 mark. The Wildcats held firm defensively as the Dolphins could not hit the game-winner as time expired, sending it to overtime tied at 68-68. Daemen secured the lead early in the overtime period with a jumper by Buntley at 4:25, putting them up 70–68. Auer extended the margin with a layup assisted by Raposo at 2:42, pushing it to 72–68. Despite a three-pointer from CSI's Dana Phelan narrowing the gap to 72–71, Fontanillo's layup at 1:58 and subsequent free throw pushed Daemen's advantage to 75–72. Raposo added a critical free throw with 18 seconds left, and Buntley sealed the game with two free throws at five seconds remaining, sealing the win at 78–75. GAME NOTES Buntley's 34 points marked a career high. Her 12 made field goals were also a career best. Raposo scored a season high 14 total points, tying her career high. Fontanillo's seven assists marked a season high. It was also her eighth game with four or more helpers. The Wildcats logged 18 steals, marking the third consecutive game it has recorded 18 or more. Daemen forced 33 Dolphin turnovers, scoring 39 points off of them. The Wildcats outscored CSI 46-36 in points in the paint. Daemen is 2-0 in overtime contests this season after also defeating Texas A&M Kingsville in OT. The Wildcats remain undefeated on the road at 9-0 this season. Daemen is now 11-0 all-time against Staten Island.
