Daemen Mourns The Loss Of Rob Lange, Former Student-Athlete & Hall of Fame Inductee

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen University Division of Athletics is saddened to learn that Dr. Robert "Rob" Lange, III, a 1996 graduate and former men's basketball student-athlete, passed away unexpectedly on May 28, 2026. He was 52 years old.

Lange was a four-year starter for the Daemen men's basketball team, then known as the Warriors. A two-time team MVP and an All-Conference honoree as a senior, Lange amassed 1,330 points, 228 assists and 524 rebounds in his career. Shortly before his graduation, he was inducted into the Daemen Athletics Hall of Fame.

Lange would stay involved with the program, joining the coaching staff of head coach Don Silveri to share his passion for the game. His coaching tenure coincided with a time that his younger brothers Marty and Kevin also competed for Daemen on the hardwood.

After earning a degree in Social Work from Daemen, Lange added a Master's Degree in Student Personnel Administration from SUNY Buffalo State and, in 2023, achieved his Doctor of Education Degree in Educational Policy, Planning and Leadership from the College of William & Mary.

Professionally, Lange made a lasting impact at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va. where he served as the longtime Dean of Admission and most recently as the Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management.

A devoted father, Lange is survived by his children, Tyson (15) and SiSi (11); his mother, Loretta; his siblings, Lynette, Marty and Kevin, their spouses and children, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He also leaves behind Michelle, SiSi's mother, with whom he shared an exceptional co-parenting bond.

A celebration of Rob's life is planned for 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 13 at CNU's David Student Union Ballroom. All are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to either the Dr. Robert J. Lange, III Memorial Endowed Scholarship or the Albert and Sydnor Moberg Endowed Scholarship for first-generation college students at Christopher Newport University (https://advancement.cnu.edu/portal/give), or to the Don Silveri Legacy Scholarship Fund at Daemen University (https://www.daemen.edu/about/give-daemen/ways-give/memorial-tribute-giving/don-silveri-legacy-scholarship-fund).
