Box Score BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- The Daemen University men's tennis opened the 2026-27 season this weekend at the Bloomsburg Invitational, competing in various singles and doubles matches against St. Francis, Edinboro, Bloomsburg and Franklin & Marshall over the two-day tournament.
Daemen freshmen
Li'Am Cohen (Jerusalem, Israel) and
Alex Hnida Marin (Mallorca, Spain) earned singles victories, while the doubles pairings of
Mitch Pollack (Winnipeg, Man.) and
Vondin Henderson (Tonawanda, N.Y.), Cohen and
Lucas Garcia (Bogota, Columbia), and
Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany) and Hnida Marin all picked up victories over the tournament.
DAY 1
- In the blue singles flight, freshman Tyler Koepf (Corfu, N.Y.) fell in his first collegiate singles debut (6-1, 6-0) to Nick Lamantia of St. Francis.
- Both Joey LaBrake (Lancaster, N.Y.) and Henderson dropped their first round matches in the white singles flight, LaBrake falling (6-0, 6-0) to Aaron Kwok of Franklin & Marshall and Henderson losing (6-0, 6-0) to Nicholas Mustea of Bloomsburg.
- Cohen earned the first singles victory for Daemen in his opening round match, beating Bloomsburg's Fran Hernandez (6-2, 6-3). Pollack fell (6-2, 6-2) to F&M's Theo Oeltermann in the red singles flight.
- Hnida Marin picked up a victory in silver singles, defeating Devin Pandey of St. Francis 6-3, 6-4. Mergens dropped his first round match up to Bloomsburg's Yannick Gyomlay (6-1, 6-2).
- In the gold singles flight, Garcia dropped his tough opening round match to Jack Seaborn (6-4, 6-2) of Bloomsburg.
- The Wildcats earned a pair of doubles victories on Friday, with the pairing of Pollack and Henderson defeating St. Francis' Quinones and Lamantia, 6-4, in the silver doubles first round. Cohen and Garcia took down Bloomsburg's Mustea and Hernandez in a tough 7-5 win in gold doubles.
- In the second round, Pollack and Henderson fell to SFU's Outwater and Chesman (6-3) in the silver flight, while Cohen and Garcia lost to Edinboro's Tabaldyev and Paulus (6-2).
- LaBrake and Koepf fell to Edinboro's Guzman and McFadzean (6-0) in the silver doubles first round. Mergens and Hnida Marin dropped their maroon doubles first round to F&M's Romano and Pamwell (6-1), and fell to SFU's Suresh and Potts (6-3) in the maroon second round.
DAY 2
- Mergens and Hnida Marin earned their first win of the tournament in a 6-4 victory over Bloomsburg's Gyomlay and Hernandez in the maroon doubles 7th place match. Mergens dropped both singles matchups on Saturday, falling 4-0, 4-1 to F&M's Carlos Lana Crous and 4-1, 4-0 to SFU's Devin Pandey in the silver singles 7th place match.
- Playing in the gold doubles 3rd place match, Cohen and Garcia fell to F&M's Kunash and Oeltermann (6-4). Cohen fell in both red singles matches (6-2, 6-3 to F&M's Ian Alonso in the second round, 4-1, 1-4 (11-9) to F&M's Hugh Outwater in the third place match).
- Pollack and Henderson dropped their silver doubles 3rd place match (6-1) to F&M's Kwok and Gervais. Pollack would fall (4-2, 4-0) in the red singles third round to Bloomsburg's Hernandez, while Henderson dropped his white singles second round match (4-0, 4-1) to Edinboro's Fergus McFadden.
- LaBrake and Koepf fell (6-1) to SFU's Quinones and Lamantia in the silver doubles 5th place match. Both Daemen players dropped their singles matches, with LaBrake falling to Edinboro's McFadden (4-1, 4-0) in the white singles third round, and Koepf dropping his blue singles second round to F&M's Campbell Gervais (6-0, 6-0).
