Prior to his collegiate career, Doermer was a First Team All-Niagara Frontier League and Second Team All-Western New York player for Grand Island High School.

He graduated in 2011 from Daemen with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Sciences before adding his Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree, also from Daemen, in 2013.

Doermer holds a National "D" Coaching License.
