Athlete Awards Athletes of the Month Choose Awards Type All Athlete Awards Athletes of the Month CJ Johnson Award Athletes of the Month Week Of 11/2/2023 Sport Men's Cross Country Bio View Full Bio Johnson was named Daemen's Male Athlete of the Month for the month of September after putting together a successful freshman season where he was one of the top three Wildcat runners in each race. Johnson was voted the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year as the first freshman to cross the finish line at the ECC Championships, marking the second year in a row that the Wildcats produced the men's cross country Rookie of the Year (Aidan Kincaid was named the 2022 Rookie of the Year).  The speedy freshman helped the Wildcats to a second place team finish in the ECC Championships where he placed sixth with a time of 25:58.5 and earned a spot on the All-ECC First Team. On the season, Johnson set personal bests in four races, setting an 8K PR of 25:42.6 at the Highlander Invitational where he finished fifth in the race and helped the Wildcats to a third place finish out of 11 teams. He also helped the Wildcats to a program-best second place finish at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational after placing 13th out of 175 runners with a time of 26:10.7.  Johnson has been named the ECC Rookie of the Week four times this season, tying Kincaid's program record of four Rookie of the Week honors set last year. He has also helped propel the Wildcats back into the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional poll. Daemen is currently ranked fourth in the East Region heading into Saturday's NCAA Division II East Region Championships.
