AMHERST, N.Y. - For the second consecutive game, the Daemen Wildcats' defense did the job as they held another opponent under 50 points in their 61-49 victory over Wilberforce University (OH) on Saturday at Lumsden Gymasium. The Wildcats have now won three out of their past four to improve to 5-7 on the season, including 3-1 in American Mideast Conference play. The win was also Daemen's first home victory since knocking off #25 Siena Heights back on November 6.
After trailing 31-28 at halftime, the Wildcats switched up their game plan and employed a "pack-it-in" style 2-3 zone, which kept the athletic Bulldogs at bay and limited them to just 18 second half points.
With the play going back-and-forth over the first 11 minutes of the second half, the Wildcats offense showed a bit of life behind the shooting of senior
Mujeeb Oridami. With the score knotted at 45-45, Oridami sent Daemen on a 9-0 run as he hit three consecutive three-point bombs over the course of a minute and a half to put Daemen ahead 54-45. From there, the Wildcats would never look back.
Oridami led the Wildcats in the scoring column for the second consecutive game as he put in 14 points. Junior Dominic Mazzocchi was the only other Wildcat to reach double figures with 10 points.
Senior
Khorri Silcott came through again on the boards as he corralled a career-high 13 rebounds to go with nine points while freshman guard
Mark Coppola played the entire second half without a rest and dished out a game-high seven assists.
Chris Olafioye led the Bulldogs with a game-high 17 points. Thomas Wilson added 16.
Next up for the Wildcats will be back-to-back home games on Dec. 21 and 22 as they host the Daemen Can-Am Classic.
