PITTSBURGH, PA - Daemen made quick work of the Carlow Celtics tonight as they defeated the host team in three sets (25-11, 25-13, 25-22) for the second time this season. The win improves Daemen to 21-9 (4-2 in American Mideast Conference play) and sets the stage for Saturday's key road match vs. Point Park.
Playing in her first match since Sept. 13, freshman
Ye Wang returned to the form that saw her leading the squad in kills and attack percentage early in the season. She led the way vs. Carlow with eight kills and two blocks.
Junior
Joanna Fretthold and sophomore
Jenn Karan split 12 kills while also contributing 10 and eight digs, respectively.
Setter
Kaley Vazquez tallied a team-best 14 assists while
Kimmie Mack added 11 and
Chelsea Turcer chipped in with six.
Katie Auge led the Daemen ball control efforts with 14 digs and 10 serve receptions without an error. As a team, the Wildcats did not commit a serve receive error in 38 attempts.
Next up for Daemen is a second shot against conference-leading Point Park on Saturday. The Pioneers (26-4, 5-1) have mowed through their AMC schedule, the only blemish being a 3-0 loss at Walsh on Sept. 22. In their last match vs. Daemen on Oct. 1, the Wildcats came out on fire and took the first set 25-22 and were in position to take the second set when they fell apart. Point Park took advantage and won three straight sets to take the match. They have currently won 11 straight matches.
