AMHERST, NY - It was a celebratory Senior Day for the Daemen Wildcats this afternoon as their five seniors accounted for all nine goals in Daemen's 9-0 shutout of the visiting Fisher Falcons, wrapping up the program's first-ever American Mideast Conference Regular Season Championship. The Wildcats finish the regular season at 15-3 overall and 11-1 in conference play, one game better than #17 Houghton who finished their conference schedule at 10-2.
"It was a great way for our seniors to go out," said Daemen head coach
Dan Dolan. "They were a big reason why we went undefeated at home all year long and this particular class has been the catalyst for the rise of our program."
The Wildcats got two goals each from seniors
Kelsi Maciejewski (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora HS),
Jenelle Masi (Greece, NY/Greece Athena HS),
Jessica Brand (Cato, NY/Cato-Meridian HS) and
Alicia Vasiloff (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa HS). Senior midfielder
Lindsay Miller (Pocono Lake, PA/Pocono Mountain West HS) also reached the back of the net and added two assists to her conference-leading total in that category.
The seniors figured mostly in the assist column as well with Masi (4), Vasiloff (3) and Maciejewski (2) adding multiple assists while Brand was credited with one as well. Freshmen
Meghan Diehl (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas HS) and
Taylor Miller (Carthage, NY/Carthage HS) picked up the first assists of their careers as well.
The Wildcats launched an astounding 75 total shots at the Fisher goal, giving them the high-water mark for the entire NAIA this season in a single game. They placed 37 shots on goal, just three behind the national season-high. Fisher was unable to register a shot in the game.
Although they are the outright conference champions, Daemen was been given the #2 seed for the American Mideast Conference Tournament based on their accumulated Longo Point Rating. They will face #3 seed Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday, November 5 at the Demske Sports Complex on the campus of Canisius College. Houghton, the #1 seed, hosts fourth-seeded Point Park in the other semifinal. The semifinal winners will meet on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the highest-remaining seed for the AMC Tournament Championship and an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
