AMHERST, NY - A goal off the head of sophomore forward Samantha Engel in the second overtime period sent the Daemen faithful into a frenzy this afternoon as the Wildcats overcame a 3-0 second half deficit to score an important 4-3 win over the visiting Point Park Pioneers on a beautiful fall afternoon at Amherst's Dimp Wagner Stadium. The win vaults Daemen to 9-3 overall and 5-1 in American Mideast Conference play and keeps them right in the hunt for a conference championship.

"We showed a lot of character with that kind of effort coming from behind," said Daemen head coach Dan Dolan. "Point Park deserves a lot of credit. They played us very well. But we showed the kind of resiliency that good teams have."

Megan Kuntz of Point Park had the lone tally of the first half despite much of the ball control in the period favoring Daemen. It was then back-to-back second half tallies from the Pioneers' Lauren Evans and Louise Delaney, coming just 44 seconds apart that took the wind of out the Daemen sails momentarily.

Down 3-0, the comeback attempt began when senior Lindsay Miller converted a penalty kick after fellow senior Jenelle Masi was dragged down inside the box on a breakaway.

The score remained 3-1 for over 20 minutes before Miller found Engel who notched her ninth goal of the season in the 76th minute to cut the deficit to just one. That set the stage for a dramatic goal by senior Alicia Vasiloff who hammered a shot off a Point Park defender and into the back of the goal after a feed from Masi in the 88th minute to knot things at 3-3.

Nothing was finer, however, than the game-winner, Engel's second of the game as Miller served the ball to the top of the box where it was flicked on by junior Kelsey O'Leary to the awaiting head of Engel who was able to punch it over the head of the Pioneer keeper who came out of the goal to attempt a save.

The win momentarily moves Daemen into a first place tie with Houghton (10-2, 5-1) pending the outcome of their game this afternoon at Roberts Wesleyan. The Wildcats will host Walsh (8-2, 4-1) on Tuesday in a key matchup.
