Daemen Downs Fisher 8-0 To Open AMC Play

9/10/2011 6:51:00 PM

BOSTON, MA - The Daemen Wildcats women's soccer team served as a rude welcoming committee today as they downed the Fisher Falcons 8-0 in the host's fist ever game as a member of the American Mideast Conference. Freshman Kayla Hampton (DeRuyter, NY/DeRuyter HS), who normally sees most of her action between the pipes, got some in-field time and made the most of it as she recorded a hat trick to help Daemen run its' record to 4-1, 1-0.

"We're certainly pleased with our effort today," said Daemen head coach Dan Dolan. "It's a nice way to open up our conference season."

Six different Wildcats were able to put shots to the back of the goal as Daemen scored eight goals for the third time this season.

Junior midfielder Alexa Amato (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island HS) got things started as she scored in the sixth minute of the contest with an assist credited to sophomore Samantha Engel (Dryden, NY/Dryden HS).

Senior striker Jenelle Masi (Greece, NY/Greece Athena HS) made the score 2-0 with her tally from freshman Brittany Orr (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys Area HS) in the 18th minute. Orr would make it 3-0 quickly after, scoring after a feed from senior Lindsay Miller (Pocono Lake, PA/Pocono Mountain West HS) in the 19th minute.

Senior Alicia Vasiloff (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa HS) got her name on the scoresheet with a goal in the 25th minute. Freshman sweeper Hannah Fraser (Milton, VT/Milton HS) picked up her second career assist on the play.

From there, Hampton took over as she scored the team's fifth, seventh and eighth goals with a tally by Kelsi Maciejewski (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora HS) mixed in. For Maciejewski, Daemen's senior defender, the marker was the first of her career in 55 total games played. Rachael Banasik (Depew, NY/Depew High School) and Jessica Brand (Cato, NY/Cato-Meridian HS) earned assists on the team's fifth and sixth goals, respectively.

Freshman keeper Juli Prentice (Dryden, NY/Dryden HS) picked up the shutout in goal, much of which could be credited to Daemen's continuous ball control as Fisher did not register a single shot on goal in the contest.

The Wildcats are back on the road this Tuesday when they travel to Brockport to face the Golden Eagles.
