Daemen Defense Does The Job In 87-44 Win At Fisher

LYNN, MA - All 11 players reached the scoresheet as the Daemen Wildcats rebounded from a disappointing performance their last time out to hand the host Fisher Falcons an 87-44 defeat. Daemen (12-9, 5-1 AMC) has now won four of their last five since the start of the New Year. Fisher, meanwhile, falls to 6-17, 2-7.

"We had a long talk about our performance last Tuesday (a 76-51 loss at Walsh) and the team agreed there's no excuses for playing that way. We wanted to make it a point of playing solid defense and I think we did that today," said Daemen head coach Don Silveri.

Defensively is where Daemen dominated the game, forcing the hosts into 24 turnovers while owning a 47-34 rebounding advantage. Thanks to Fisher's sloppy play, the Wildcats also collected 15 steals.

Jim Regan continued his hot streak for the Wildcats as the 6'7" junior forward canned a game-high 20 points, on 9-for-13 shooting from the field, along with seven rebounds. Sophomore Kadeem Johnson hit on five of his six field goal attempts for 12 points while freshman Gerald Beverly contributed 12 points on 6-for-8 shooting.

The Wildcats also got good contributions from senior Dom Mazzocchi, sophomores Mark Coppola and freshman Samuel Ouedraogo. Mazzocchi broke out of a shooting slump and scored all nine of his points in the second half to go with a team-high eight rebounds. Coppola dished 10 assists and Sheehan nearly matched him with eight as the two starting guards accounted for two-thirds of Daemen's 27 assists in the game. The 6'8" Ouedraogo hauled down five rebounds in just six minutes of action.

Two-time AMC Player of the Week Dennis Norford paced Fisher with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Silveri credited the combined defensive efforts of Johnson, Mazzocchi and senior Chandler Williams with holding the dynamic Norford below his season averages.

Next up for Daemen is a 2pm tipoff tomorrow vs. the College of St. Joseph in a non-conference affair in Rutland, VT.
