Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Sheehan & Satram Lead Daemen to 117-52 Romp Over Fleming

AMHERST, N.Y. -A suffocating defensive effort led the Daemen College men's basketball team to a 117-52 victory over Fleming College (Ont.) tonight at DC's Lumsden Gymnasium.

It marked the second-straight 100-point effort for the Wildcats, who defeated Niagara College (Ont.) in their season-opener, 108-67, Wednesday night. Fleming dropped to 0-2.

Daemen forced 29 turnovers in the game (19 in the first half), which resulted in 44 points for the hosts. Fleming connected on just 9-of-31 shots in the opening half and finished just 20-of-66 (30%) for the game. Daemen shot over 50-percent from the field for the second-straight game (40-for78) and drained 10 three-pointers.

Junior Casey Sheehan (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) led the hosts with 24 points and four steals, while junior college transfer Alvin Satram (New Port Richey, Fla./Pasco-Hernando CC) connected on 5-of-8 three-pointers and totaled 19 points in 18 minutes off the bench. Sophomore Gerald Beverly (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) recorded his second-straight double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds in just 19 minutes of action.

Daemen got 69 points from its bench, as sophomore Jordan Greene (Fort Edward, N.Y./South Glens Falls) canned 3-of-5 from downtown and totaled 16 points, while sophomore Aaron Davis (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds.

Defense was the name of the game early on, as both teams struggled to score and the hosts held a slim 15-14 lead midway through the first half. The Wildcats held a 21-16 lead when Sheehan sparked the hosts to their first double-digit lead of the contest. The 5-foot-9 guard drove the baseline for a pretty layup over several defenders and then drilled a three-pointer on the Wildcat's next possession. Another baseline move by Sheehan resulted in an offensive rebound and dunk by Beverly, giving the hosts a 28-16 lead with 8:05 left before intermission.

Daemen turned the defensive pressure up even more at that point, which paid off in a 22-7 run that gave the hosts a 50-23 lead and got the home crowd into the contest. Satram drilled four of his five three-pointers during the run. Daemen took a 60-25 lead into the break.

A 17-2 run over the first four minutes of the second half gave the hosts a 77-27 lead.

The Wildcats out-rebounded the Knights 55-43 and held a 48-24 edge in points in the paint.

The two teams square off again tomorrow. Game time is 4 p.m. at Lumsden Gymnasium.
