Wildcats Compete At USCAA National Championship Meet

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's and women's cross-country teams closed out their respective 2012 seasons today by competing at the USCAA National Championships held at Mount Van Hoevenburg.  The Daemen men ran to a 9th place finish while the Wildcat women came in 6th place - both fields had 17 competing teams. 

SUNY-ESF had three runners place in the top seven individually in the men's 8K race, guiding the Mighty Oaks to their second consecutive USCAA National Championship.

On the women's side, Southern Virginia also won their second consecutive championship by placing three runners in the top 10.

The Daemen men were paced by sophomore Zac Ekdahl (Middlesex, NY/Marcus Whitman) who came in at 29:07.89 for 16th place.  Junior Ethan Dinan (Geneva, NY/Geneva) was next at 30:23.61 which was good for 34th place.  Not far behind, in 37th place, was sophomore Zach Eustance (Hilton, NY/Hilton) who finished the race in 30:34.62.

For the Daemen women, freshman Jordan Weir (Cato, NY/Cato-Meridian) concluded her fine rookie campaign by finishing in fifth place overall and, thus, earning USCAA All-American honors.  Weir came in at 25:28.50.

Also running strong for the Wildcats was sophomore Noelle Thompson (Vestal, NY/Vestal) who finished in 20th place with a time of 26:20.45.
