Greene, Sheehan Shoot Daemen To Win

Duo Combines For 44 Points In 42-Point Rout Of Redeemer

Redeemer (3-8) 25-32--57
Daemen (15-4) 61-38--99

AMHERST, N.Y. - A 61-point first half paved the way for the Daemen College men's basketball team to pick up a 99-57 victory over Redeemer University College today at Lumsden Gymnasium.

The Wildcats improved to 15-4 overall while extending their home unbeaten streak to 20 straight dating back to last season (10-0 this season).

Daemen came out of the gates on fire, connecting on 17-of-20 shots from the field to open the game (85-percent) as sophomore forward Jordan Greene (Fort Edward, N.Y./South Glens Falls) and junior guard Casey Sheehan (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) led the onslaught.  The duo combined to shoot 15-for-18 from the field in the opening half en route to 19 points apiece in the period.  For the game, they each finished with 22 points.  Sheehan added four assists and three steals whlie Greene snagged four rebounds and a career-high three steals as well.

The teams traded baskets in the game's opening minutes before Daemen used a 36-7 run covering eight-and-a-half minutes to establish a 46-16 lead with 7:43 remaining in the first half.  Greene and Sheehan accounted for the first nine points in the run and 15 overall as Daemen took a one-point advantage up to 30.

Redeemer (3-8) scored seven in a row to cut the deficit to 23 with 4:11 remaining in the half on a bucket by Paul Hart.  But, a three-pointer from Greene followed by a Gerald Beverly (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) layup quickly stemmed the tide.

Sheehan scored 10 points in the final 1:56 of the half, including a 30-foot bomb at the buzzer, to put the hosts ahead by 36 at the break (61-25).

Daemen hit 24-of-36 shots from the field in the half (67-percent), including 10-of-16 from three-point range (63-percent).

The second half proved to be a mere formality as Redeemer never got closer than 33 points (70-37 with 13:57 remaining).  The Wildcats ran their lead as high as 47 points on a layup by freshman forward Tom Escott (Amherst, N.Y/St. Joseph's) with 1:43 to go.

Redshirt sophomore guard Aaron Davis (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and 3-of-4 from three-point range.  It was Davis' second double-figure outing in the last three games and his fourth of the season.

Senior forward Jim Regan (Williamsville, N.Y./Nichols) tossed in 10 points with a team-high eight rebounds as well as four assists and four blocked shots.  Fellow big man Beverly added 10 points and seven boards.

Freshman guard Supreme Hannah (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) knocked down two trey-balls and had eight points while starting point guard Mark Coppola (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) was near flawless again as he dished out five dimes with just one turnover.

Calvin Turnbull paced the Royals with 12 points and eight rebounds.  Chris McFadden-Martin added 11 points off the bench.

For the game, the Wildcats knocked down a season-high 15 three-pointers.  It's the fourth time this season that Daemen has hit for 10 or more threes after accomplishing that feat just once all of last year.  Friday's barrage is the most three-pointers in a game since the Wildcats canned 14-of-27 in an 88-87 loss to Point Park on Feb. 19, 2011.

The same two teams square off tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Lumsden Gym in Daemen's final tune-up before their three-game swing through the Sunshine State with games at the Ave Maria University Classic from Jan. 3-5.
