9/8/2012 9:34:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROCKLIN, CA - The Daemen Wildcats concluded their participation in the William Jessup Warrior Challenge today by taking a split of their day's matches, first defeating the host Warriors in three sets (25-20, 25-4, 25-19) before dropping a straight set loss to NAIA #16 Master's (12-25, 20-25, 22-25).  Daemen finishes up their west coast trip with a 3-2 record as they sit at 4-5 overall on the season.

In the day's opener vs. William Jessup, senior Joanna Fretthold (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) and junior Jenn Karan (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park HS) led a balanced Daemen attack with seven kills apiece.  Daemen also got six kills from sophomore Lindsey Nowak (Hamburg, NY/Immaculata Acad.) and five from sophomore Ye Wang (Beijing, China/Hachioji Jissen HS) as the Wildcats attacked at a .297 clip in the match, committing just nine hitting errors in 74 attempts.

The play of setters Chelsea Turcer (Alexander, NY/Alexander Central HS) and Kaley Vazquez (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West HS) was key as well.  Vazquez had 13 assists while Turcer may have played her finest match of the season so far, contributing 14 assists, four service aces and eight digs.

Fretthold and fellow senior Katie Auge (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca HS) paced the Daemen defense with 12 digs apiece.

Daemen couldn't keep it up in the loss to Master's, however.  The Mustangs held a .322 hitting percentage compared to Daemen's .102.  Daemen had no answer for the Mustangs' Sam Dougherty who pounded down 14 kills (with a .560 hitting percentage) to go with five service aces and a match-high 12 digs.

Fretthold and Nowak split 14 kills between them to lead Daemen.  Vazquez added 20 assists in the match.

Next up for the Wildcats is a trip to Pennsylvania next weekend for Ram Fest, hosted by West Chester University.  While there, Daemen will face four NCAA Division II opponents.
