AVE MARIA, Fla. - The Daemen College men's basketball team sprinted to an 88-65 rout of Virginia University of Lynchburg today on day two of the Ave Maria University Classic held at the Tom Golisano Field House.

Sophomore forward Gerald Beverly (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) led a quintet of double figure scorers for the Wildcats with 19 points and added 14 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season.

DC, which picked up a forfeit victory yesterday when Ohio Mid-Western University could not make the trip to south Florida, improved to 18-4 on the season today while VUL dropped to 8-13.  The Dragons lost last night to tournament host Ave Maria 80-67 in the event's opening game.

The Wildcats entered the game ranked #4 in the latest United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) poll; VUL is ranked #14.

The Wildcats used a 19-0 run covering six minutes to break open a double figure lead in the first half.  Junior guard Alvin Satram (New Port Richey, Fla./Pasco-Hernando CC) hit a three-pointer at the 12:32 mark to break a 15-15 tie which started the run.  He added two assists during the run and teamed with redshirt sophomore guard Aaron Davis (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) to provide a spark off the Wildcat bench.

VUL would cut into the Daemen lead before the half.  They trailed by 12 (39-27) after a jumper by Christopher Calvan with 16 seconds left but a deep three-pointer by DC's Jim Regan (Williamsville, N.Y./Nichols) at the halftime buzzer put the Wildcats ahead by 15 (42-27) at the break.

In the second half, the Wildcats put together a 14-3 run to take what was an 11-point lead (49-38 at the 18:12 mark) up to 22-points (63-41 at the 13:17 mark).  Three-pointers from Jordan Greene (Fort Edward, N.Y./South Glens Falls), Satram and Davis highlighted the run.

Daemen would extend the lead up to 26 points on another Satram bucket with 8:48 remaining.  From there, the lead hovered in the 20-point range for the remainder of the game; the Dragons cut the deficit to 19 on two ocassions but never got closer than that.

Satram, back playing in his home state, enjoyed a nice homecoming of sorts with 12 points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals.  He knocked home 3-of-8 shots from three-point range and picked up his fourth double-figure scoring game of the season, and first since Nov. 17.

Davis added 11 points, five rebounds and two steals while hitting 3-of-5 from three-point range.  It was Davis' fifth double-figure scoring game of the season and third in the last five games.

Juinor guard Casey Sheehan (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena), fresh off his selection as the USCAA Player of the Week, scored 11 points and dished off five assists, a couple of which went to Beverly for alley-oop dunks.

Regan chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats while Greene finished with nine points (3-for-9 from three-point range) and junior point guard Mark Coppola (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) had eight points, eight assists and three steals.

Calvan and Dennis Gravely split 26 points to lead the Dragons.  Calvan added a team-high seven rebounds.

VUL connected on 25-of-57 (44-percent) compared to the Wildcats' 45-percent outing (31-for-69).  The Dragons were forced into 20 turnovers and connected on just 1-of-7 (14-percent) from three-point range.  Daemen, meanwhile, shot 37-percent from long range (11-for-30) and made it three games in a row with at least 10 threes.

Tonight's win sets up a huge showdown tomorrow in the final game of the event as Daemen faces the host Gyrenes (13-1) - the #2 ranked USCAA team in the land.  Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
