ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. - The Daemen College women's soccer team got back in the win column today with a 5-0 shutout of host Rochester College in a non-conference matchup of United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) affiliates.  Daemen, which is ranked No. 2 in the USCAA national poll, evened its overall record at 6-6-0 and improved to 3-0-0 against USCAA opponents.  Rochester dropped to 2-12-0 with the loss.

Sophomore Jessica Zawadzki (Tonwanda, N.Y./Kenmore West) got Daemen on the board early, scoring the first goal of her career at the 14:38 mark.

Daemen was aided when a Rochester player inadvertently booted the ball into their own net late in the first half.  The Wildcats took their 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Wildcats got single tallies in the second half from Juli Prentice (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden), Kacey Bougard (East Aurora, N.Y./Sacred Heart) and Samantha Engel (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden).  Prentice's tally, her second of the season, came early in the second half (48:59) on a pass from Engel, giving the Wildcats a three-goal edge.

Bougard's marker, her team-leading ninth of the season, came in the 61st minute.  Engel added her fifth of the season - the 30th goal of her career - some 32 seconds later to provide the final margin.

Redshirt freshman Kathryn Haessner (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia) made three saves in goal for Daemen.  She was relieved by senior Rachel Reichart (Marilla, N.Y./Iroquois Central) for the final 29 minutes and change.  Reichart went untested between the pipes, preserving the shutout for Daemen.  Five of the Wildcats' six wins this season have been shutouts.

The win extended Daemen's winning streak vs. USCAA opponents to seven.  The Wildcats have not lost to a USCAA team since a 1-0 loss at the University of Maine-Fort Kent on Sept. 30, 2012.  Consequently, Daemen has knocked off UMFK twice in the current streak, once earlier this season and once in the USCAA title game last November.

With a goal and an assist today, Engel now has 89 points (30 goals, 29 assists) in 69 games played in her career.  The three-point outing today was the 13th time in her career that she's had at least three points in a game.

Daemen will attempt to jump back over .500 when they take on Cleary University on the road tomorrow.  The Cougars, also a USCAA affiliate, are in their first season as a varsity sport at Cleary and enter the matchup with Daemen at 3-11-0 so far this season.
