HOWELL, Mich. - The Daemen College men's soccer team improved to 4-9-0 on the season with a 3-1 non-conference win over Cleary University at Page Field today in a matchup of United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) affiliates.  The host Cougars, in their first year as a varsity sport at Cleary, fell to 1-11-0 with the loss.

Daemen earned the game's first goal - the only goal tally of the opening period - in the eleventh minute of play when Kyle Clifford (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Francis) scored off a pass from teammate Trevor Hill (Courtice, Ont./Holy Trinity Catholic).

The Cougars got on the board early in the second half when Justin Ferreira managed to streak past Daemen defenders in the 58th minute to score an unassisted goal.

The Wildcats jumped back ahead in the 74th minute after another Clifford goal which scurried past Cleary goalkeeper Kyle Gill off an assist from freshman Alex Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport).

In the 79th minute, the Wildcats pushed the final margin to 3-1 when Reid again sent a pass to Clifford who recorded the "hat trick" for DC.

With three tallies today, Clifford now leads the team with nine this season and has 29 for his stellar four-year career.  It was also hist first "hat trick" since pulling it off in during a 9-0 win at Fisher College on Sept. 10, 2011.  Clifford now has nine multi-goal games in 54 appearances in his career.

Daemen goalkeepers Matt Daddario (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) and his partner Daniel Romer (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Plattsburgh State) each finished with two saves to bring home the win for the Wildcats.

Daemen will return home on Friday, Oct. 18 for an East Coast Conference match against Dowling College at Dimp Wagner Stadium.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
