AMHERST, N.Y. –
Bediako Swan has stepped down as the head coach of the Daemen University men's soccer team, Vice President for Athletics Traci Murphy announced on Tuesday.
"We are grateful for Coach Swan's commitment to our student-athletes and his contributions to the Daemen community over the last eight years. We wish him and his family well in their next chapter," Murphy said.
Swan has served as the head coach of the Wildcats for the past eight seasons. Joining the Daemen men's soccer program as the sixth head coach in the modern era (2000-present) in 2019, Swan has coached 13 CSC Academic All-District honorees and one CSC Academic All-American in Derek Bartlo (2022), who was also the first Wildcat men's soccer player to be named to the D2CCA All-East Region team. During Swans tenure, the men's soccer team has had a 3.0 GPA or higher every single year, with the spring 2023 GPA being the program's best (3.60) under Swan.
A national search for the next Daemen men's soccer head coach will begin immediately.
"The next head coach of the Wildcats will inherit a program with strong institutional support and the necessary resources to compete within the East Coast Conference. Strategic and consistent recruiting to build the depth of our roster will be an important factor in building upon the foundation that's in place, and taking the program forward. This work directly aligns with the established goals of our updated strategic plan, The Wildcat Way, which was recently announced," Murphy said.
