AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback against Dowling College today at Dimp Wagner Stadium. With the loss, Daemen breaks even at .500 for the season (7-7-0 overall) and drops to 1-6-0 in East Coast Conference play while Dowling, the defending ECC tournament champions, improved to 9-2-1 overall and 4-2-0 in conference play.

"I thought we stuck to our game plan and played very well.  We were able to counter and get some fantastic chances," said Daemen head coach Dan Dolan.  "Unfortunately, we couldn't finish."

The Golden Lions got on the board late in the first half when Kim Spiciarich scored an unassited goal off a rebound in the 36th minute. Daemen went into halftime trailing by just one.

Erika Krumholz provided the final margin for Dowling when she scored an unassisted goal in the 78th minute, deflecting the ball into the goal after it hit the post on the initial Dowling shot, putting her team up 2-0. Dowling College launched 30 total shots in the game putting 13 of them on frame. The Wildcats only took seven total shots placing five of them on goal. The Golden Lions also also held an 6-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

In goal, redshirt freshman Kathryn Haessner (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia) was pelted with Dowling scoring chances, but stood tall, making 11 saves for the Wildcats. Her counterpart Melissa Guglielmo made five saves to earn the win for the Golden Lions.

In positive news for the Wildcats, senior midfielder/forward  Alexa Amato (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) entered the game as a sub in the first half, seeing her first game action since early September. Amato, the team's Most Valuable Player last season, had missed the last 11 games due to an injury.

The last time Daemen was shutout on their home field was November 22, 2010 against Houghton College when they lost a 2-0 decision.

The Wildcats will look for a quick turnaround as they host the University of Bridgeport this Sunday (Oct. 20) at 11 a.m. This match will be part of the ECC "Pink Week" festivities that will be hosted by each men's and women's soccer team in the conference.

In addition to the ECC "Pink Week" festivities, Sunday's game vs. Bridgeport will be the final home contest in the careers of five Daemen seniors. Alexa AmatoKacey Bougard (East Aurora, N.Y./Sacred Heart), Nicole Brokaw (Freeville, N.Y./Dryden), Samantha Engel (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden) and Rachel Reichart (Marilla, N.Y./Iroquois Central) will be honored in a pre-game ceremony at midfield.
