Men's Soccer Suffers Heart-Breaking Loss

ECC Foe Bridgeport Snaps Scoreless Tie In 2OT

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's soccer team could not capitalize on their offesive chances as they suffered a gut-wrenching 1-0 defeat in double overtime to the University of Bridgeport in an East Coast Conference game at Dimp Wagner Stadium today.  With the loss, Daemen falls to 4-11-0 (0-7-0 ECC) on the season while the visiting Purple Knights improved to 7-5-0 (5-2-0 ECC) on the year.

The game took a physical tone right off the bat, but especially in the second half which allowed each team several good chances on free kicks.  Both teams also picked up one yellow card a piece while Daemen additionally got called for three offside violations compared to Bridgeport's two.

Bridgeport got the game-winning goal from Lee Martins three minutes into the second overtime when he sent a long, high ball to the upper right corner of the net to take home the win for the Purple Knights. 

Daemen was under pressure for most of the game as UB launched 23 total shots and held an 9-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Junior goalkeeper Matt Daddario (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) made a four saves for Daemen while Bridgeport's Lee Fenner made two saves to earn the shutout for the Purple Knights. It was the third straight win for Bridgeport as they ran their record to 3-0 in overtime contests this season.

Daemen will look to get back in the win column when they host the University of the District of Columbia in an East Coast Conference match on Saturday (Oct. 26) at 1:00 p.m. in their final home contest of the season.
