AMHERST, N.Y. – These days it is tough to find a collegiate men's basketball team that averages over 90 points per game. In fact, there are only a dozen teams across all collegiate levels (NCAA, NAIA, USCAA) that are currently scoring over 90 points per game.
Two of those schools will square off Wednesday (Feb. 13) when Point Park University hosts Daemen College. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Community College of Allegheny County-South Gymnasium in West Mifflin, Pa.
Live streaming video and
live stats will be available.
It will mark the regular-season finale for Daemen, which can set a school record for wins in a season with a victory over the Pioneers.
Daemen and Point Park were long-time rivals in the NAIA's American Mideast Conference (AMC). The AMC disbanded after the 2011-12 academic year. Daemen is now a provisional member of the NCAA Division II East Coast Conference (ECC). Point Park remains a NAIA Division II member and is now part of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC). Daemen is also a member of the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association).
The shot clock will most likely not be a factor Wednesday night. Daemen has scored 100 points nine times this year and is averaging 90.4 points, which ranks second among USCAA teams. Point Park has reached the century mark seven times (four times in the past nine games) and is averaging 94.5 points—second among NAIA Division II schools.
Daemen has backed up its offensive firepower with solid defense. Daemen's opponents are shooting just 39-percent from the field and scoring just 69 points per game. The Wildcats are also forcing nearly 20 turnovers a game, while recording 10 steals per contest.
PPU's defensive statistics are not as flattering. The Pioneers have allowed four opponents to score 100 points, including a 136-point outburst by NCAA Division II power West Liberty University. The Pioneers are giving up an average of 88 points per contest, and their opponents are shooting 44-percent from the field.
Daemen (24-5) has won 13 of its last 14 games and tied the school-record for wins in a season following a 78-68 win at Salem International University last Saturday. Daemen has recorded 20 wins for the second-straight year, and the seventh time in the past 11 years. The Wildcats have been ranked third in the USCAA Division I poll the last three weeks. Daemen is expected to earn a bid to the eight-team USCAA National Championship Tournament, which is set to take place Feb. 26 – March 2 in Uniontown, Pa.

Senior Jimmy Taylor rounds out the three-guard starting lineup. He has drilled 43 three-pointers and is averaging 10.5 points. Daemen has prevailed in six of the last eight meetings between the two rivals and owns a 12-11 advantage in the all-time series. The Wildcats swept the season series last year, posting an 82-78 win at CCAC-South and an 87-67 win at Lumsden Gymnasium.
