Ralyea Wins Pole Vault At ECC Indoor Championships

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. - Freshman Robert Ralyea (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) paced the Daemen College men's track and field team today, becoming the Wildcats' first-ever conference champion by winning the pole vault competition at the East Coast Conference (ECC) Indoor Championships held at St. Anthony's High School.

Ralyea cleared the vault at 4.25 meters and teammate Andrew Stapleton (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) came in second with a mark of 3.05 meters to lead the Wildcats in their first-ever ECC Championship meet.

Senior thrower Mark Fox (Dansville, N.Y./Dansville) continued his strong season with a second-place finish in the shot put.  Fox had a toss of 13.9 meters in the shot put finals which was good enough for his fifth consecutive top-five finish so far this season.

Sophomore runner Travis Enser (West Valley, N.Y./West Valley Central) ran the 800 meters in 2:10.14 which was good enough for fourth place.

Senior Corey Pepero (Orchard Park, N.Y./Erie CC) finished in sixth place in the one-mile run (4:48.70) while sophomore jumper Sam Rugg (Freeville, N.Y./Dryden) placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.14 meters.

As a team, the Wildcats, who sent an abbreviated squad to the event, finished in fifth place out of five competing teams.  Molloy College racked up 163 team points to earn the Conference Championship.
