HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's cross country team was in action today, taking a fifth place finish at the Highlander Invitational hosted by Houghton College on its campus. Fredonia State took top honors in the team standings while Matt Giannino of the Rochester Institute of Technology won the 8K race with a time of 26:32.18.
Wet and sloppy conditions muddied up the course, making it difficult for the 113 participants.
Daemen was paced by junior
Zach Eustance (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) who came in 19th with a time of 27:36.07. Freshman
Matt Cregan (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) was right behind, finishing in 21st (27:41.13)
Newcomer
Jeremy Rushok (Akron, N.Y./Buffalo State College), a sophomore transfer who paced the Wildcats in their season opener last weekend, finished in 28th today with a time of 27:59.37.
Veterans
Ethan Dinan (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and
Zac Ekdahl (Middlesex, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) rounded out the scorers for Daemen. Dinan (28:21.84) came in 41st and Ekdahl (28:22.15) finished in 42nd. It was the first race of the year for Ekdahl, the team's M.V.P. last season, after he missed the opener last week with an injury.
Daemen returns to running next weekend (Sept. 28) when they travel to Roberts Wesleyan College for the Harry F. Anderson Invitational.
