Women's Soccer Still Searching For 1st ECC Win

Box Score

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's soccer team suffered its third straight defeat in East Coast Conference action today, falling 4-0 to rival Roberts Wesleyan College at RWC Stadium this afternoon.  The loss sends Daemen (3-4-0 overall) under .500 for the first time this season and keeps them in search of their first-ever conference win (0-3-0 ECC).  The host Redhawks, meanwhile, kept things rolling with their third consecutive win to move to 6-2-0 overall, and 3-0-0 in conference play.

Kristina Roberts put the Redhawks on the board just 5:25 into the game.  She picked up a rebound in the box and scored an unassisted goal which proved to be the game-winner.

The early RWC tally continued a disturbing trend for the Wildcats who have surrendered a goal in the opening 8:30 in all four of their losses this season.

RWC took their 1-0 lead into halftime but didn't waste much time adding to it.  Brittany Foster scored her first of two goals on the day less than five minutes into the second half.  She took a pass from Ambre Kuzma and scored from the top of the box with a shot to far right corner of the goal, putting the Redhawks ahead by two.

Foster would notch another goal in the 57th minute off a pass from Roberts, striking the ball with her left foot past some Daemen defenders who stood between her and the goal.

RWC's Jackie Corbett added a late insurance goal in the 69th minute.  Ellie Swan picked up an assist on the play.

Daemen could not solve the goalkeeping of RWC's Marissa Sell.  The reigning ECC Defensive Player of the Week made seven saves to earn the shutout.  Of Daemen's seven shots on goal, three came from senior Kacey Bougard (East Aurora, N.Y./Sacred Heart) and two from freshman Leah May (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon).

Sell's counterpart, redshirt freshman Kathryn Haessner (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia), made six saves for Daemen before being relieved by senior Rachel Reichart (Marilla, N.Y./Iroquois Central) in the 79th minute.

The longtime American Mideast Conference rivals met for the first time as members of the ECC in this one.  Daemen had earned bragging rights in the series in recent years, owning a 3-1-2 record in the last six matchups coming into today, including a 1-0 shutout last season.

Daemen allowed four goals for the first time since a 4-0 loss at Wilkes University on Sept. 23, 2012.  The three-game losing streak is Daemen's first since dropping five straight in late September and early October last season.  The Wildcats, of course, rebounded to win eight of their last nine last season.

The Wildcats will look to right the ship when they host SUNY Canton in a non-league contest next Tuesday (Oct. 1).  Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. under the lights at Dimp Wagner Stadium.
