Beverly, who helped Daemen to the ECC regular-season championship last year, shares this honor with Darien Davis, a 6-foot-3 senior guard from Dowling College."This is a great honor for Gerald, and we couldn't be prouder to see him honored in this fashion. It's truly a testament to his hard work on the court and in the weight room," said head coach Mike MacDonald. "We're certainly hopeful that Gerald will have the kind of season he's capable of, and that we'll be honoring him in a similar manner at the end of the year. I am looking forward to watching his progress throughout the season."Beverly really blossomed into a beast on the interior for Daemen last season, helping the Wildcats capture the conference's regular-season crown in the team's first year as a member of the league. For the season, Beverly led the team in both scoring and rebounding (18.9 ppg, 10.0 rpg) and became the first Daemen player to average a double-double for an entire season since Brian Pettit in 1998-99. As if that weren't enough, he shot 57-percent from the field and added 4.0 blocks per game as well. Beverly's season totals were gaudy. In addition to his 528 points, he collected 280 rebounds - the eighth-highest single-season total in team history. By blocking 111 shots, he became only the third player in team history to reach 100 blocks in a season. He scored in double figures in all 28 games - giving him a current streak of 30 straight dating back to his sophomore campaign - while also accumulating 16 double-doubles, nine 20-point games and nine games with five or more blocks. His 111 total blocks and 4.0 blocks per game both rank in the top-five in ECC history for a single-season. He was also the only player in the league to average double-figure rebounds last season. He was honored as the league's Defensive Player of the Year and was a first team All-ECC selection.Beverly and the Wildcats open the 2014-15 season with an exhibition tilt at NCAA Division I Canisius College on Tuesday, Nov. 11 (7 p.m.) before tipping off for real against Concordia College (N.Y.) on Friday, Nov. 14 (8 p.m.) at home as part of the East Coast Conference-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (ECC-CACC) Challenge.
