BROCKPORT, N.Y. - It was an impressive day for Alex Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) as the freshman won the 200-meter dash while finishing fifth in the 60-meter dash and third in the long jump to pace the Daemen College men's track and field team at their second event of the season - the Golden Eagle Multi and Invitational hosted by The College At Brockport today.
Reid's time of 23.08 seconds was 0.19 seconds better than the hosts' Zachary Brown who took second in the 200-meter dash. Â He added a time of 7.24 seconds in the 60-meter dash and a jump of 6.66 meters in the long jump to complete a stellar afternoon in just the second indoor track meet of his young collegiate career.
Joining Reid atop coach Jessica Gorski's top performers list from the meet was junior long distance runner Zach Eustance (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) who had his second straight solid outing. Â Eustance finished third in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:47.75.
Also earning top 10 finishes were Travis Enser (West Valley, N.Y./West Valley Central) and Nigel Cordulla (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy). Â Enser took seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.92 seconds while Cordulla's time of 2:42.49 was good enough for eighth place in the 1000-meter run.
Zac Ekdahl (Middlesex, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) earned a 14th place finish in the 1 mile run (4:34.08) while teammate Jeremy Rushok (Akron, N.Y./Buffalo State College) wasn't far behind, finishing in 16th (4:36.00).
Defending East Coast Conference pole vault champion Robert Ralyea (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) got his season going with a 14th place showing, clearing 3.95 meters.
In the relays, the team of Ekdahl, Cordulla and freshmen Matt Cregan (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) and Matt VanDeMortel (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) took sixth in the 4 X 400 with a time of 3:44.21. Â Ralyea teamed with Hunter Berry (Colden, N.Y./Springville-Griffith), Niko Jemmison (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical) and Nick Sherry (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) for a seventh-place showing in the 4 X 200 relay.
Daemen heads back to Brockport next Saturday, Feb. 8 for the Golden Eagle Invite.
